When you like something to do, and when you have contributed a great to your cause, you can not leave this to the people’s mercy. That’s what we are shown in the first opening minutes of The Dark Knight Rises, the final chapter of the Dark Knight Saga who established Chris Nolan as a celebrated genius director, who even with probably the simplest and most flat story like The Dark Knight Rises, never fails to entertain people of every taste. And the line written above was in the film not reflects only Bruce Wayne but also Christopher Nolan himself, who almost dropped the plan for third installment by the end of The Dark Knight filming, but still returned to make a third and final installment. Here I am going to write about the movie, and also not going to write anything at all. As I have done something like this before, I think I am comfortable with this, so let’s start with the post.
All the three films of dark knight trilogy is revolving around one word. The Batman Begins revolves around fear and The Dark Knight revolves around chaos. As this was the last movie probably working around Bruce Wayne’s death as batman, it should be revolve around Death or Legacy. This is the first shock Nolan gave me when I was coming out of movie hall. I think the word and apparently the world of the movie revolved around Rise (Infact nolan confirmed it revolves around pain). And in every scene TDKR has a reference to Rise from wherever you are to wherever you want to go.
You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.
Remember that quote from the dark knight, said by Harvey Dent? This is the first practical management lesson taught in the movie. Living in an 8 years exile, locking both the selfs in your big manor doesn’t help you anymore. Because it didn’t help Bruce Wayne nor helped Howard Huges whom Bruce was reflecting (Remember Aviator?). If you lock your”self” into your safe harbor, people will only have rumors about you. And they need to talk someone’s useless craps so they do not have to talk about theirs. You already have guilt of your past deeds, plus the guilt of these bad rumors adds a lot into it.
And than poverty strikes, lead by a masked-powered by venom- villain who is as genius as you are, as powerful as you are, trained where you are. Thus you are attacked by a man who reflects negatively your-self. You are right, even you have power, but being a bad guy he has a power, and initially upper hand over you. It may be you, powered by venom, knows the part of your self who only selected few have idea of. Thus he strikes on the core of your persona and snatches everything, the people you have, the power you have, the respect you have and breaks your spinal chord. Just like the lighty mighty corporate world we live in, they may give you some money, but snatch everything you have. Time, family, love, respect… And thus brakes you away. Throws you into the Lazarrus Pit of never ending jobs.
But in this Lazarus pit, you are never alone. In spite of being hurt badly, almost alone and away from everything what you love, there are people chanting for you. The people you see, or the versions of your self. Chanting for you, in various language. But their motive is same, RISE. You try to rise, try to go back to the world you like to live. Remember, sometimes you may take an aid, that on the first thing, should help you. Just don’t stop yourself to try with different method when you are not getting any help. You may want to walk barefoot when you need shoes, but you have to do it if you must.
You were not there to help what you love, and that made everything shattered somehow. Waiting for collapse, it will be painful if it does. And you have nothing to do, nothing to help being yourself, being with the people you love. Helping you all the way they can, and will help you to start a battle against that villain. You may be thrown into situation where you have to die, to do a hara-kiri, but at the end you have saved what you love.
And that’s the redemption you will receive. There may be some time to patch the buggy version of your life’s autopilot. And you are intelligent enough to work on it, but if you have done it properly, you may have time to jump off that bat. And then you may enjoy that redemption in that bar in Florence.
